What exactly is a concierge?
"Keeper of the keys".
The word "concierge" is a French derivative that translates into "keeper of
the keys" in the American language. During the Middle Ages, the
concierges were the gatekeepers who held the keys to the castle. Although
the service dates back centuries, the term was barely known in America
until the 1970's.
During the Middle Ages, it was the concierges that were selected to castles
and manors to accommodate the needs of invited guests of the kings,
noblemen and high ranking society. The concierge responsibilities
consisted of accommodating every detail and request made by the guests,
regardless of the hour and no matter the nature of the request.
This tradition has continued through upscale hotels worldwide and has
transformed into a more accessible service outside of the hotel industry
